Community Organizing Current Issue Campaigns

The most up-to-date information on the issue campaigns conducted by the groups cited below can be found in the News & Events section of this website.

Problem Property Committee

HART has brought together a citywide coalition to expand its residents' ongoing efforts to reduce blight in Hartford's neighborhoods. The coalition includes Hartford 2000, Northend United ACORN, the Hartford Preservation Alliance, and Hartford’s Department of Development Services.

Youth Organizing Committee

This committee provides Hartford's young people the opportunity to make a difference in their community by researching problems and solutions -- and by demonstrating that positive community change is possible through effective organizing. The committee is now working in the partnership with the Hartford Public Library and the City's Office for Young Children to implement their proposed after-school program. Committee members have been asked to participate as panelists in several youth conferences.

Immigrant Rights Committee

Based on its successful role in influencing favorable public policy changes in Hartford, the Committee has formed a statewide immigrant rights coalition with the Connecticut American Friends Service Committee, the Connecticut Center for a New Economy, Greater Hartford Coalition for Equity and Justice, Northend United ACORN, Collaborative Center for Justice, and the National Lawyer's Guild (Connecticut Chapter).

Neighborhood Issues Groups

In partnership with HART, new neighborhood groups have been established in Barry Square, Behind the Rocks, South End, and Southwest. These groups are addressing issues such as traffic safety, historic preservation and improving the relationships between businesses and residents.
